NEW PRODUCT TO HELP COMBAT SPREAD OF H1N1 INFLUENZA AND OTHER INFECTIOUS DISEASES
gelFAST 2GO, a small clip-on waterless hand sanitizer, combines Me-donyx’s hospital-proven alcohol formula with patent-pending integral-clip container, giving mobile users instant hand cleaning options. The unique container is able to clip simply and securely to items such as clothing, gym bags, purses, lanyards or key rings. 2GO joins Medonyx’s family of gelFAST wearable hand hygiene products, clinically shown to increase hand hygiene rates of healthcare workers. “What should I do to keep from getting the flu? First and most important: wash your hands,” notes the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guideline for H1N1 Influenza prevention. “Yet better hand hygiene has been a persistent problem. So rethinking hand hygiene as something that could be worn with you all the time as a functional ‘fashion accessory’ was the twist,” adds Dr. Shmuel Shoham, leading infectious diseases expert and Scientific Director of MedStar Clinical Research Center at Washington Hospital Center. “Hand hygiene is a habit, and habits are driven by human psychology, so gelFAST 2GO was approached from that perspective. Even providing users with different colours of 2GO helps drive acceptance, which we strongly suspect correlates with rates of hand hygiene.” Inspired by rock climbing rope clips called carabiners, Medonyx designed a clip directly into the bottle itself, yielding improved functionality, aesthetics, and economy. gelFAST 2GO is the only bottle to incorporate a carabiner clip directly into a low-cost molded container. “We saw poor hand hygiene linked to poor accessibility,” comments Medonyx director Dana Manoliu. “We knew we could and needed to do something about it. With 2GO, we have been really surprised by the strong reaction.”
