CATERPILLAR EXTENDS COMPACT RADIUS MINI EXCAVATOR RANGE
Caterpillar’s three C-Series mini excavators are designed for high performance in tight working spaces. The 303C CR, 304C CR and 305C CR feature zero-tail-swing, as the counterweight does not extend beyond the tracks when swinging. Also, each model has a swing boom, which enables the operator to position the machine to dig and work next to a wall or obstruction.
The three machines upgraded to the C-Series offer more power, increased stability and lift capacity, faster cycle times and a larger cab and more comfortable operator station. All three machines feature class leading digging forces. Bucket digging forces have been increased as much as 22 percent when TOE compared to the previous models, and stick digging forces have been increased as much as five percent. A new digging bucket line delivers higher digging forces with greater capacity, and a new, optional hydraulically controlled angle blade increases productivity when backfilling. The C-Series machines replace the Cat 303 CR, 304 CR and 305 CR.
For economical and environmentally friendly operation, a new auto idle system decelerates the engine to idling speed six seconds after the operating levers return to the neutral position. When a lever is moved, the engine automatically resumes operating speed. The system decreases fuel consumption and noise.
The 303C CR has an operating weight, with cab, of 7,837 pounds (3 555 kg) and net engine power (ISO) of 29.5 hp (22.0 kW) – 13 percent more than the previous model. The 304C CR has an operating weight, with cab, of 10,847 pounds (4 920 kg) and net engine power of 41.6 hp (31 kW), which is an increase of more than 15 percent. The 305C CR weighs 11,729 pounds, with cab, and produces 47 hp (35 kW), an increase of about 12 percent compared to the previous model.
The two-speed travel system is automatic and improves machine maneuverability, and the dozer float function makes grading tasks easier. The optional, hydraulically powered angle blade can make the C-Series excavator more productive when dozing. All dozer functions are controlled by a single control lever inside the cab. Fully proportional fingertip control positions the blade straight ahead or angled as much as 25 degrees to the left or right, which effectively reduces the number of times required to back up and reposition when backfilling trenches.
The front linkage is a fabricated box section, built for performance and long life. The independent swing boom enables the machine to work next to a wall or obstruction. The 200-degree bucket rotation ensures good material retention at height as well as flat trenching capability. A choice of sticklengths and a wide range of Cat Work Tools add versatility to the new C-Series machines.
